Mauro Icardi remains hopeful of playing in Argentina’s friendly match against Colombia on Tuesday but is not certain of recovering from his injury in time.
Icardi has already been ruled out of the Albiceleste’s clash with Guatemala on Friday evening, following the muscular problem he sustained before Inter’s win over Bologna last weekend, and confusion continues to reign over how long it will take for him to return to full fitness.
Lionel Scaloni has taken interim charge of the national team following the dismissal of Jorge Sampaoli at the end of this summer’s World Cup, where Argentina were eliminated by France in the last 16, and Icardi is keen to get some game-time with the new boss after being excluded from the 23-man squad that travelled to Russia.
However Argentine newspaper Clarin report that he is still nursing his injury and will have to wait until the last minute to decide if he can play on Tuesday.
In any case, Scaloni is said to be keen to avoid causing a diplomatic incident with Inter over the issue, which would suggest he will only play the 25 year-old if there is no risk involved.
