According to Corriere della Sera, European football’s governing body UEFA have two trains of thought with regard to the away goals rule, one of which could see the rule scrapped entirely.
Their first idea is to use away goals still but if extra time is to occur, away goals will not count for double due to the unfair advantage it gives to the side ahead on away goals as they then get another half hour to try and score more, something that the opponent would not have been afforded in the first leg.
The second idea is to just scrap the rule altogether and thus make it easier for non-football fans or people trying to get in to football to understand in the sense it will simply be the team with the most goals wins. Of course, if the teams are still level after extra-time, penalties will still be used as the tie-breaker if UEFA go down the route of scrapping away goals.
