In an interview with Abu Dhabi news outlet The National, Inter legend Esteban Cambiasso reflected on the Club World Cup that he won with Inter back in 2010 following the draw for this year’s edition being made.
“Nobody at that time expected that we would play in the final against an African team. It was strange because usually it is the European and South American teams in the final. We knew that a surprise in the final could happen but everyone still though it was an easy game for us. Winning was a great memory for us because nothing is won until you have the trophy. In every game there is always a lot of pressure and you have to just live with it. It does not depend on the opponent, when you play in a club like this or Real Madrid, you know that the obligation is always trying to win.
“The best memory is of course when I had the trophy in hand and I remember that our great friend and teammate, Walter Samuel, was out because he had injured his knee ligaments. So it was not a good moment for the team but then our captain Javier Zanetti put on his shirt when we raised the trophy, it was fantastic.”
