Inter Boast Formidable Record After September International Breaks

Inter will be looking to continue their excellent record in matches played after the September international break when they face Parma next Sunday.

“Inter always find fertile terrain after the first pit stop of the season,” Corriere dello Sport wrote on Friday. “Tradition dictates that when play resumes at the start of autumn the Nerazzurri almost always pick up three points.

“Since 2007 they have returned from a September international break on 10 occasions and only once have they not managed to win their first match back.” That came in the 2013-14 season, when Inter drew with Juventus in the Derby d’Italia at San Siro.

“Up next is Parma, and a quick look at the history books tells us that they have already fallen foul of this trend.

“It was the year 2009, the magical year of the Triplete, when Jose Mourinho’s side faced Francesco Guidolin and co. on 13 September. Parma were a newly-promoted outfit on that occasion as well, just like they are now.

“It was a very tough game for Inter but Samuel Eto’o broke the deadlock with 20 minutes left, before Diego Milito secured the win. Three points without playing great football, a bit like the current Inter. An Inter side that wants to forget their teething problems of the first two matches.”
