Matteo Politano is all but guaranteed to become an Inter player on a permanent basis at the end of the season after his loan spell from Sassuolo expires, according to Tuttosport.

Politano joined the Nerazzurri in a deal worth €25 million in June but is not officially their player for the moment, having signed on loan with an option to buy in order to circumnavigate Inter’s Financial Fair Play restrictions.

However the Turin-based publication believes that the Italian’s status is a mere formality and reports that Inter have already promised Sassuolo they will sign him permanently next summer.

“The impression one had from the start is that Sassuolo were willing to make things easier for Inter, who needed to sign players on loan so that they could include them in their Champions League squad, accepting this formula while also receiving reassurance that they will receive the rest of their money in twelve months’ time.

“There is a sort of gentleman’s agreement between the two clubs [that Inter will exercise their option to buy next summer]. Politano, therefore, can consider himself to be in a slightly less precarious situation than Keita, with the first three weeks of the season confirming that Inter have made a good decision in signing him.”
