Inter captain Mauro Icardi spoke with Sky Sports following Inter’s 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League in which he scored the opening goal.

“The goal…here is how it happened. It was a ball from behind, Asamoah saw me and put in a fantastic ball and it all ended well.

“It was a spectacular night and it was what we had to do. We have a strong team, we can play against anyone. We had been waiting for this match for three months, starting like this gives us a lot of confidence and an added incentive to do better in the league. A match like that in the Champions League gives you the right atmosphere to continue working.”

Icardi then turned his attention to Saturday’s match with Sampdoria.

“We must move forward, happy, but also calm. I do not know if this game is a turning point but on Saturday we have another game to play. The season has not went as we would have wanted but this victory gives us so much confidence.

He concluded the interview by speaking on Matias Vecino who has once again headed Inter toward a win in an important match.

“Vecino has been there twice and two victories have arrived but it doesn’t matter who scores as the most important thing is that Inter wins.”
