Matias Vecino: “Maybe It Was Destiny That I Scored”

Match winner Matias Vecino stopped by Sky Sport Italia to share his thoughts on the dramatic 2-1 win against Tottenham in the opening group stage fixture of the Champions League at home at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.

The former Fiorentina man was thrilled and began by thanking the fans saying: “Huge thank you to the everyone here, who gave us energy, we believed in the win until the very end. After the equalizer we continued to attack always looking to win and this was what was decisive. There is a lot left of the season, we have to continue working.”

The Uruguayan international midfielder continued by stressing how important the win was saying: “To begin the competition like this gives us extra energy. The next match against PSV is also very important. We are looking to win in order to win fundamental points. These three points give us certainty and faith, also in the Serie A. We have to have intensity for 90 minutes, especially in the Serie A where the teams close you down.”

In conclusion Vecino was asked about his match winning goal saying: “Maybe it was destiny, anyone could have scored. What is important is that we believed in it. The 3-2 win against Lazio was a strong emotion, we hope that there will be many more like it. Against Lazio I attacked the first post today the cross was long and De Vrij put it into the middle. Both goals were two important goals.”
