Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio has proposed an annual salary of €7 million to club captain Mauro Icardi according to a report from Sport Mediaset.
Ausilio has met with Icardi’s wife and agent Wanda Nara in the past week and while the proposal was appreciated Wanda would like to see her husband’s salary brought in line with that of Milan’s Gonzalo Higuain, who earns a mouthwatering sum of €9 million per season.
Icardi is currently under contract through until the end of the 2020/21 season and the renewal, as per the report, would tie him down until the end of the 2022/23 season instead.
Inter are also looking to get rid of the €110 million release clause in the current contract also but Wanda wants a release clause as part of the new contract.
There is no rush to get a deal done however with it understood that Icardi’s intentions are to stay at San Siro.
