Massimo Moratti: “Seeing Inter Fans Cry In Madrid Moved Me”

Former Inter owner and president Massimo Moratti was among the guests at the La Triennale event as part of Milano Calcio City and was one of those sat on the panel.

“From my father I learned to have a direct relationship with the fan, without fear and live together with them. I never felt alone in that sense. I always felt supported and helped by everyone. Inter is not just a job, it is a passion. Seeing the fans cheering and crying for Inter that night in Madrid was a wonderful thing, it was really moving. Even though the people who attend the stadium change, people’s feelings remain the same.”

Sitting beside him on the stage was former Inter player Mario Corso and Moratti spoke of his admiration for him.

“Having a player like Mario Corso on the side was fantastic. When I played football I tried to imitate him, I tried his feints.”

Moratti concluded the interview by speaking on legendary Inter manager Helenio Herrera, who took charge of the Grande Inter side of the 1960s.

“Herrera was a very good coach. At a time when it was much more difficult to know about the foreign teams, he was sticking everything in a booklet and explained to his players exactly how their foreign opponents played.”
