Italian Journalist Garlando: “Physicality & Individual Quality Behind Inter’s Revival”

Inter’s physicality and individual quality are the key reasons behind their recent upturn in form, according to Gazzetta dello Sport’s Luigi Garlando.

Wednesday’s 2-1 win over PSV was the Nerazzurri’s fifth straight win in all competitions after a poor start to the season, sparking debate in Italy over what was the source of their revival.

Writing for the Milan-based publication on Friday, Garlando believes Luciano Spalletti has had to redesign his side following the departures of Joao Cancelo and Rafinha in the summer.

“In the first half of last season Spalletti consolidated Inter with organisation and solidity,” he said. “In the second, he refined the team by adding in the quality of Cancelo and Rafinha’s.

“Having lost both of them he had to review his plans: Nainggolan provides moments of quality rather than quality football.

“Of the four Italian teams in the Champions League Inter are the side that struggle the most when playing out from the back, but they have a stylish physicality and an individual quality which pays off in Europe.”
