Luciano Spalletti has spoken on the evolution of his side since he took over in 2017 and what Inter needs in order to topple Juventus in an interview with Corriere della Sera.
“The biggest enemy was the lack of confidence, I tried to make the players understand that we were all faced with the same obstacle and we could overcome it only as Inter and not as individuals. The Champions League has converted resignation into enthusiasm. The team is evolving, but I already know that it will never be like the one in my mind. Lazio-Inter on the last day of the season, as it was put, had the connotations to make us think of our typical blackout but We turned a possible dark situation into the brightest beam of light.”
Spalletti was then asked on what the big goal for Inter is.
“It is forbidden to set limits on what the final goal should be at Inter. We want to go further and I want Inter to return to being one of the biggest and one of the most beautiful teams in the world. Inter must be recognised for what their history his.”
Juventus have reigned supreme over Italian football for several years now and
“To reach Juventus you need top level players like Luka Modric, someone that had been talked about in the summer. How many players do we need to get to Juventus? Let’s talk about a level of players who are able to teach others how to do it. The inclusion of top players is the shortcut to becoming very strong.”
Spalletti was then asked on what his plans are for life after Inter which currently seems some way away.
“Where will I go after Inter? Anywhere but not in exile. After being able to coach Inter I would like to become the coach of one of the biggest teams.”
