Inter Legend Bergomi: “Lippi & Moratti Made Certain Decisions But I Thought I Could Still Be Useful”

Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Bergomi reflected on certain moments of his career in an interview with Gianluca Gazzoli firstly recalling which of his many coaches made him cry.

“The only coach I crying about in my career was Gigi Radice, he was crazy about young players and I had a very special relationship with him,” Bergomi explained before going on to reminisce about Ronaldo.

“I had a great relationship with Ronie. Gigi Simoni always told us, you’re all the same except for him. Even if Ronaldo was training at 80% he was fine, I have never seen anyone with such speed and technique like him and he was loved by all his team mates.”

He then spoke on his retirement and his disappointment with it.

“When I stopped playing at the age of 36 in 1999, I did not make up my mind to quit but others made it clear to me that I had to. Lippi and Moratti made certain decisions, they sent me, Pagliuca and Simeone away. I thought I could still be useful, not only on the field, but also as a leader inside the dressing room to help the coach.”
