Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Marotta has admitted he is “taking a moment to reflect” amidst all the rumours linking him with an arrival at Inter in the coming weeks following his recent exit from Juventus.
“At this moment, it’s clear that I have finished my winning era at Juventus. I consider myself to be on a break, taking a moment to reflect, so I’m enjoying evenings out that unfortunately I often had to snub in the past. I will evaluate what scenario the football world proposes to me,” he told TGPlus.
Marotta then spoke on the changes he has witnessed first hand in football.
“My world is football, where I am very happy and intend on getting back to very quickly. I was at Venezia almost 20 years ago now, and the way sport is perceived has changed. There has been an exasperation of commercialisation and business, as today the financial aspect often overshadows other values.
“There has also been a great emancipation of players. Nowadays, a player is an impresario whose business is himself, partnered by professionals who not only control the economic part, but also dealing with clubs and sponsors.
“Football at the top level has become entertainment with huge media and commercial deals. There is an elite level that attracts millions of fans in the so-called ‘virtual stadium’ of the world, so consequently local football has far less appeal than in the 1980s and 90s.”
