This season Luciano Spalletti has had Inter adopt a more possession based style of play and while this has paid dividends domestically, Inter have struggled using the same style in Europe.
Against Tottenham Hotspur, Inter failed to have more of the ball than their opponents and it was not for the first time that this was the case in the group stage. From this, it is clear to see that Inter lack both the required quality and personality, at least in the eyes of Gazzetta dello Sport.
Inter quite simply cannot afford to lack either of these in just under two weeks time when they play host to PSV Eindhoven in the final group stage game. After failing to secure qualification against Spurs, Inter’s Champions League fate is no longer in their own hands and they are ultimately relying on Barcelona to do them a favour as long as they do as they are required to against the Dutch side.
