The 1-0 victory over Udinese on Saturday could have a more significant meaning than just another three points against the fourth worst team in the Serie A, something that Turin based newspaper Tuttosport have tried to explain.

“Inter had just been eliminated from the Champions League and came off a seven game stint with only one victory. So the “Panenka” of Icardi could have driven away some ghosts and should Inter keep their focus against Chievo on Saturday, Spalletti can celebrate Christmas calmly, thinking that the dark period probably is behind him and the team.”

Tuttosport then continues with listing the merits of the Tuscan coach, and mentions in particular how Spalletti have developed many players on the roster.

“There are three in particular, three bishops that, thanks to Spalletti have taken some steps in their careers: Skriniar, Brozovic and Icardi. The defender arrived in 2017 and during the team’s preparation he got a starting position, reducing the need for Inter to sign another central defender. Since then, he has constantly developed to a player that wipes out any doubts of the €33 million investment (€18 million more than Caprari). Today, Skriniar is worth at least three times that sum, compare that to Liverpool who a year ago spent €80 million on the Dutch defender van Dijk.

“Brozovic seemed destined to leave Inter, even under Spalletti the Croat, up until the end of February 2018, was considered as “Mr Inconsistent”, also clashing with the fans. Maurito has become the symbol of Inter and the €110 million buy-out clause is not enough considering his value to Inter. In 2019 the renewal will come and that clause will either be lifted out of the contract or raised to at least €160 million.”
