Who Are Inter’s Europa League Opponents Rapid Vienna?

Ahead of their Europa League clash with Inter in the new year, Gazzetta dello Sport have analysed Rapid Vienna.

At the moment there is a 28 point distance between Rapid and Austrian Bundesliga leaders Red Bull Salzburg. Inter’s upcoming opponents in the Europa League are not doing very well at the moment and last Sunday they were on the other end of a 6-1 beating from city rivals Austrian Vienna.

While they find themselves in eight spot in the Austrian Bundesliga at the moment, they have been a surprise package in Europe. They knocked Slovan Bratislava and Steaua Bucharest in the qualifiers and finished second in a group consisting of Villarreal, Rangers and Spartak Moscow.

Their coach is Dietmar Kühbauer, has been with them since October and his system is 4-2-3-1 although he stated after the derby loss that “it could change during the winter break.” The Austrian league takes a long break now and restarts again at the end of February, this means that their first official game in two months will be against Inter.

While they have no real star players, they do have a couple of interesting youngsters like Mert Muldur, Dejan Ljubicic, Boli Bolinngoli-Mbombo and former Inter youth player Christian Knasmullner. Despite being a winger, Knasmullner is Rapid’s top scorer with four goals in the Europa League
