Alberto Ziliani has revealed the reasoning behind Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio winning the best sporting director of the year award in the eyes of the Italian lawyers association.

“He won the award for Inter because he brought the team back to the Champions League, despite FFP, he combined sporting success with economic success, even during the transfer market,” he explained in an interview with Sky Sports

“The decision that he would win was made two months ago. The year was in progress and because of his experience, he is the most suitable to confer the recognition. The circumstance is curious, but it gives us enormous pleasure.”

Ziliani also spoke on financial fair play.

“It aimed to reduce the distance between small and large clubs and in this sense it did not work. They wanted to reduce the crazy fees for the players but then see the case of Neymar, the goal was therefore not achieved. Sustainability is fine, but it must not limit entrepreneurial initiative but it should be more preventative. If the FFP was introduced ten years earlier, we would not have PSG and Manchester City like they are, which despite being criticised have introduced good finances.”
