Zanetti: “Inter Is Seeking Sustainability To Be Competitive”

Hosted by Radio Deejay, Inter vice-president Javier Zanetti sheds light on a few important topics and events going on at the moment including his book ‘Vincere, ma non solo’ and the most recent headline, Mauro Icardi’s renewal situation but firstly began by speaking on his outlook on life.

“Always very positive, life is so beautiful that it must be faced positively, apart from Atalanta-Inter 4-1, but even here we must find the positive side ..Yes, the match is over.”

He then discussed his new book in detail.

“In this book, I wanted to express the values that have always inspired me … I wanted a challenge of all 360 degrees and Inter offered it to me. It is important for me to always face life with a smile. We need to go back to our roots: we need to be more strict, we have to do that with today’s youngsters who are struggling, and Spalletti knows how to do it. We need to evaluate the behaviour that the players have during the week, to maintain themselves at high levels and to make sacrifices, without sacrifices nothing comes and life shows it, but it is a matter of using their heads. But some, like Balotelli, do not understand it. Mourinho, for example, worked a lot under the psychological aspect.”

Zanetti also commented on Jose Mourinho, who was recently sacked as manager of Manchester United.

“He will always remain a great coach, both in Madrid and in Manchester he did well because he won a few trophies, then he went into a difficult time for the next few years. I know he will want to get back to top as soon as possible, sorry, because you are not used to seeing him like that.”

The Argentine then spoke on what Inter are aiming to achieve in the coming years and particularly focused on what must be done if Inter wish to achieve what they wish.

“We are looking for the famous sustainability: when you increase revenues, one thing I am working so hard for, you can manage to have a competitive team. The people come back to the stadium? this is the biggest challenge. To have sustainability regardless of the results. We must congratulate those who work in ticketing and marketing, this is the fruit of the work of many years that is now bearing fruit “.

He penultimately addressed the current situation surrounding Mauro Icardi’s contract renewal.

“Everyone must respect their role, and the most important thing is that Icardi is happy here with us, he expresses it with his qualities.”

He concluded the interview by reflecting on Inter’s Champions League campaign.

“We were disappointed to go out because the group was difficult, but in Monte Carlo we said we could play it, but we only had to win the last one with PSV and we did not. It’s sad but this is part of the path of growth. Inter is resilient, as Enrico Bertolino also said during the Christmas party, this will help us to face the rest of the season.”
