A fairly significant gap still exists between Inter’s offer and star man Mauro Icardi’s demands in contract renewal talks according to a report from Sport Mediaset.

Inter have tabled the Argentine, who is club captain, a new €6 million per season deal but Icardi is meanwhile looking for closer to €9.5 million instead to prolong his relationship with the Nerazzurri. The report goes on to detail that the first contacts between his wife and agent Wanda Nara and new Inter chief executive Beppe Marotta went well.

The 25-year-old is tied down for the foreseeable future with him currently having a contract until the end of the 2020/21 season but continued good performances have lead to the need to re-evaluate his salary which in all likelihood will bring him in line with other stars in Serie A.

Icardi joined Inter in 2013 from Sampdoria and has now made over 200 appearances for the club in which he has scored a very impressive 120 goals.
