Milan Mayor Sala: “Inter Should Give Captain’s Armband To Asamoah”

Milan Mayor Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Sala was in attendance last night to watch his beloved Inter’s 1-0 win over Napoli but was left upset due to the racial abuse directed toward Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibably.

“Last night I went to the stadium, following that passion my father transmitted to me, like so many other fans. When I go to celebrate and suffer for the colours of my heart, I confess that I often think of him and the times we went to San Siro together.

“I got cold, I got excited, I celebrated Inter’s victories. But this time, I came home disheartened. Those boos towards Koulibaly were a disgrace. It was a disgraceful act towards a serious sportsperson like him, who proudly bears the colour of his skin, and – to a lesser extent – so many others who go to the stadium to support their team and be with their friends,” he posted to Facebook.

“I don’t like thinking about what others should do to address the problems of the society we live in. I always prefer to start from what I have to do, so in this case I’ll do something very simple. I’ll keep going to watch Inter, but I’ll make a small gesture if I hear another boo. I’ll get up and leave. I’ll do it for myself. I’m aware of the fact that those who howl towards a black player won’t give a damn about me, but I’ll still do it.”

He concluded by stating what he would like to see Inter do and apologised to Koulibaly for the abuse he was subjected to.

“Inter will do what they think is right but I’d like to see the captain’s armband given to Asamoah at Empoli. In the meantime I apologise to Kalidou Koulibaly.”
