Inter On Course To Do Better Than Last Season

With the Serie A season at the half way stage and currently stopped for the winter break, Gazzetta dello Sport have taken the opportunity to examine Inter’s season so far.

“From November to Christmas, Inter have won only three games out of ten, they dropped out of the Champions League and saw the gap between Juventus and Napoli in the league increase, but the success against a direct rival like Napoli can be a triple turning point for them from a technical, physical and mental point of view.

“Inter played better against Ancelotti’s team, they seemed decidedly more fit and showed not to be in awe of the situation as they went on to win in stoppage time. Last year, both games against Napoli ended 0-0 but with Inter instead focused on stopping Napoli from dribbling as much as possible.

“Inter currently has an average points per game total higher than the end of last season with 2.05 compared to 1.89. Inter could therefore close the season with 78 points, six more than last season, confirming their place in Champions League and consolidating themselves as one of Juventus’ main rivals.”

The Milan based newspaper also discuss what Inter manager Luciano Spalletti needs to try achieve this season.

“The Nerazzurri coach has a double mission: to win a title, maybe the Europa League and to return the Nerazzurri to a position of nobility.”

Inter lead the league for some stats. Inter have an average of 58.9% possession per game, higher than both Juventus and Napoli who occupy the two places above them in the table. Spalletti’s side also have the best success on crosses.
