Salary aside, the future of the release clause in Mauro Icardi’s contract is something else that needs to be worked out and Corriere dello Sport have examined the situation.
Icardi currently has a €110 million release clause in his deal valid only to clubs outside of Italy during the first two weeks of July each year.
The general feeling at the beginning of talks was that there was not a problem in raising it to somewhere between €130-140 million but the Rome based newspaper state that now the situation is different.
The clause could be entirely removed or even raised to €250 million, around €30 million more than the world record €222 million transfer fee PSG paid Barcelona for Neymar.
Icardi’s agent Wanda Icardi would be willing to accept the clause being raised to €250 million so long as her clients salary is proportionate to a value of that manner and in or around the €10 million mark.
