Inter have been given the green light by Italian football’s governing body the FIGC to open the first tier of San Siro for the upcoming league match with Sassuolo.
The Nerazzurri were punished with a stadium ban as a result of a portion of the support subjecting Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly to racist chants as the team’s met on boxing day, a match that Inter won 1-0.
It was decided that they would have to play with a full stadium closure for their next two home games against Benevento and Sassuolo and play in a partially closed stadium for the game after that against Bologna. San Siro will be fully open again from the game with Sampdoria on February 17.
Rather than play in a completely empty ground, Inter requested that they could open the first tier of the ground to children in their academy and local school children in both primary and secondary school. Talks with local schools are ongoing.
