Massimo Moratti: “Gasperini’s Sacking At Inter Was Inevitable”

Off the back of Gian Piero Gasperini’s continued success with Atalanta, former Inter president and owner Massimo Moratti spoke recalled Gasperini’s spell in charge of Inter, firstly touching on his sacking.

“Unfortunately at that time it was inevitable that he had to be sacked,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.

Next Moratti spoke on why he chose Gasperini in the first place.

“Why did I chose him? His teams always played well. When I chose him, I was sure he was demonstrating important things and all his abilities, but a coach like him would have needed more time.

“At certain clubs like Inter, it is often not possible to give a manager this time and at that moment we could not go any further with him. Gasperini himself was experiencing a moment of crisis too.”

He concluded by stating he believes Atalanta are deserving of a place in the Champions League.

“He is a very skilled manager and he is getting really good results in Bergamo. With everything that they are showing, both he and Atalanta deserve to get into the Champions League.”
