Inter CEO Marotta: “Optimisic That Icardi’s Situation Will Be Resolved For The Better”

Prior to Inter’s 2-0 win over SPAL at San Siro this afternoon, Inter chief executive Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Marotta provided an update with regard to Mauro Icardi’s situation.

“We’re very optimistic that the situation will be resolved for the better,” he told Italian broadcaster Sky Sport.

“It’s only right that the Club maintains an intransigent attitude, although we remain a family governed by common sense. This is also thanks to the contributions of Steven Zhang and the Coach. We can manage our matters internally with a certain peace of mind.

“Daily life at Inter continues, there are many other events and issues that we must concern ourselves with. This is normal in football and I’ve seen a lot of it over my career. We must remain calm and manage things rationally. It would be a great failure if we’d have to go through legal means.

He was then asked if Icardi may be back for next weekend’s Milan derby.

“I don’t know. I can only say that as a football man, this forced absence means he might not have the right fitness levels to play at his best, should he be available. That’s a decision for the Coach to make

Marotta also spoke on the management’s relationship with manager Luciano Spalletti.

“We’re close, not because he needs to receive special attention from us, but rather because this is must always be the case at a Club. We are one. We have one single goal and we want to achieve it together. We head out onto the pitch looking to transmit all of our components and a desire to win.”
