Inter Midfielder Borja Valero: “We’re Talking Too Much About Icardi”

Borja Valero has shared his disappointment after Inter’s loss to Lazio at San Siro whilst also speaking on the affect that the Mauro Icardi saga has had on the team.

“Unfortunately we were unable to score, we started well by pushing forward but we were unable to find spaces and they closed up shop after they went 1-0 up. In the second half we changed a couple of things but we still couldn’t score any goals,” he said in an interview with Rai Sport post-match.

The Spaniard was then asked about Mauro Icardi, who was not called up for the match.

“We are talking too much about him after such a defeat we always talk about the same things again and again. The coach was clear, we must think only about what goes on on the field and look to achieve our goals.

“What happens in the locker room should stay there. We have talked many times but it is not right to tell them outside of the locker room.

He was then asked if he felt Inter struggled in the middle of the park.

“I don’t think so. It was difficult to find spaces with Lazio so defensive and united. We lost the ball too much but I don’t think that the midfield was the reason for the defeat.”

He concluded by discussing whether he feels the whole Icardi situation has had an affect on the psychological aspect of the group.

“Obviously everything that happens off of the field can have an influence on it. It is not easy to keep the concentration in football when things happen outside but we must be mature and resolve things in order to reach the goals.

“Things must be resolved in the locker room. Unfortunately this was not the case. The management did what they had to do, the coach said what he had to say and I believe that now we must not say anything else because we have already talked too much.”
