Exciting Summer Transfer Window Ahead Of Inter Under Antonio Conte

Inter can now prepare for an exciting summer in the transfer market after they beat Empoli to secure a place in Serie A’s top four on Sunday. A late strike from Radja Nainggolan sparked scenes of pandemonium at the San Siro, as it saw Inter leapfrog rivals AC Milan in the table and seize a Champions League berth for next season.

That will provide a significant financial boost for the club and make it a more attractive destination for new players. They have already pulled off a coup in convincing Antonio Conte to take over as manager and now they can set about bolstering the squad.

During his last stint in Serie A, Conte won three consecutive titles with Juventus. He has since managed the Italian national team and led Chelsea to the Premier League title and the FA Cup. During that time, Juventus have won another five Serie A titles in a row and they look more formidable than ever now with Cristiano Ronaldo up front. It is now time for Inter to step up to the plate and make things interesting once again in Serie A.

The task facing Conte is daunting. The latest soccer odds from top bookies show that Juventus are the odds-on favourites to secure a ninth consecutive title next season. However, it is interesting to note that Inter are second in the betting, ahead of Napoli, who have been runners-up in three of the last four years.

There is a newfound sense of optimism surrounding the club, and that is reflected in those odds. Inter finished 21 points behind Juventus this season, so there is a considerable gap for Conte to make up, but he could be the man to pull it off if he is given the requisite backing in the transfer market.

Conte loves playing a 3-5-2 formation and that is likely to lead to a change in tactics for Inter next season. It will also require a change in playing staff, as he will need wing-backs and more options at centre-back. There is a good chance that Mauro Icardi will leave, so they need a star striker to either replace him or compete with him for a place in the starting 11. Conte will also be keen for more quality in midfield, so it should be a very busy summer indeed for Inter.

During his time at Chelsea, Conte turned Victor Moses from an underused squad player into a title-winning, lauded wing-back. He has been marginalised since Conte’s departure and he spent the second half of the season on loan at Fenerbahce in Turkey. Conte has apparently instructed Inter to sign the Nigerian international and he should provide plenty of pace, explosiveness and stamina down the right.

It is also exciting to see the club linked with signing Edin Dzeko. The Bosnian has not been quite so devastating this season, finishing with nine goals and seven assists in 32 games. But he was top scorer in 2016/17 and he has an exceptionally prolific record for Roma since leaving Man City in 2015. Conte is also said to be keen on signing Romelu Lukaku from Man Utd.

He was furious when Chelsea failed to sign the hulking Belgian during his tenure at the club, and he remains a huge fan of Lukaku, despite his struggles for Man Utd. The forward could be looking for a new lease of life and he has the attributes to take Serie A by storm. Whether Inter will pay the fee he would command is another matter.

Xherdan Shaqiri is another target after being told he can leave Liverpool this summer, and many more names will surely be linked over the coming weeks, so excitement should abound among fans this summer.
