Inter’s former defender Andrea Mandorlini has urged the club not to swap Mauro Icardi with Juventus forward Paulo Dybala.
Beppe Marotta is pushing for the deal but has encountered resistance from La Joya so far, with some sources claiming he would view the Nerazzurri as a backwards step in his career.
Mandorlini helped Inter win the Scudetto in the 1988-89 season and spoke out against the idea when talking to TuttoMercatoWeb.com yesterday.
“I don’t know what to suggest given everything that’s happened but I wouldn’t do the swap,” he admitted.
“It’s difficult to imagine Icardi staying at Inter, though. He’s still young and has a lot of room for improvement, his numbers speak for themselves.”
Mandorlini did praise some of Inter’s other transfer objectives, however, before encouraging the club to cut the gap to Juventus as quickly as possible.
“Nicolo Barella would be a great signing, Edin Dzeko is close to joining and Antonio Conte is an important appointment,” he added.
“It’s been a long time since Inter were winning things but they’re making big investments now. They have to get closer to Juventus because it would be terrible for the title race to be over by April again.”
