Ionut Radu today confirmed he wants to stay at Genoa next season to further his development and gain more top-flight experience.

Inter will soon announce they have resigned the Romanian after exercising the buy-back option they had during this summer’s transfer window.

Radu would prefer to be loaned back to the Rossoblu than move elsewhere, though, having impressed during his 33 league appearances last season.

“I’ll improve even more if I stay at Genoa for another year, I’m certain of it,” the 22-year-old told FcInterNews.it.

“I’ve learned a lot from Genoa’s goalkeeping coach Alessio Scarpi and he’ll be able to help me more. I’ll gain even more experience there too.

“If Inter think I’m ready to join the first team then we’ll see if that’s the case. I’m only concentrated on the under-21 Euros at the moment, though. I need to do well here with Romania.”

Radu also had words of praise for Inter’s current keeper Samir Handanovic and former boss Roberto Mancini, who gave him his first-team debut in 2016.

“I aspire to be like David De Gea as he has the same style of goalkeeping, but I like Handanovic’s professionalism. Samir is an example of the perfect sportsman.

“I didn’t expect to make my debut for Inter when it happened. Mancini made my dream come true so I can only be happy about that. I’ll carry that moment in my heart forever.”

Radu then looked back on his time playing for the Primavera side, which he left three years ago.

“I made loads of friends and have plenty of fond memories from those years,” Radu added.

“It was nice to win the Viareggio tournament and a shame to lose the Scudetto final in 2016. We won the Coppa Italia that year, though, thanks to a super-united group.

“I’m happy to see a few of my friends from back then going on to play in Serie A, such as Christian Kouame and George Puscas.”
