Antonio Conte believes Romelu Lukaku is the perfect centre-forward for his style of football, according to Corriere dello Sport.
Inter have been chasing the Manchester United striker for several weeks but Conte has admired Lukaku for much longer than that.
The 26-year-old impresses for his ruthlessness in front of goal, but also his desire to bring teammates into play, work hard in defence and help out with pressing and defensive set pieces.
“Conte and Lukaku have similar ideas on how football should be played and that’s why they appreciate each other and want to work together,” the paper explained this morning.
“They haven’t managed to join up so far and there’s no guarantee they will do so this summer either, because Conte is not the only coach courting the striker.”
Maurizio Sarri also wants to sign Lukaku for Juventus but it remains to be seen where he will manage to convince the Belgian to miss out on working with Conte again.
The pair were pitted against each other at Euro 2016 when Italy beat Belgium 2-0 in the group stage, with Lukaku eventually being substituted by Divock Origi after a poor performance.
“Conte was such a fan of Lukaku’s game that he got Graziano Pellè, Ciro Immobile, Simone Zaza and Eder to study the forward’s movement,” Corriere recalled.
“It had the desired effect, because Italy were then so familiar with Lukaku that they didn’t give him a sniff in that match.”
Lukaku is in Australia with Manchester United for their preseason tour, but he hopes to complete a move to Inter as soon as possible.
