Inter were thanked today by Lugano’s head of sport for giving the city ‘an important window’ with their preseason training camp.
Antonio Conte’s side will spend the week there before flying off to Asia for a lucrative summer tour.
The Nerazzurri will also face the local side in a friendly on Sunday, though, for which more than 7,000 tickets have already been sold.
“Beppe Marotta came to inspect the area in March and we’re very happy he chose to bring Inter here,” Roberto Mazza told Inter TV.
“It’s not often we sell 7,000 tickets at the Cornaredo Stadium.”
Mazza then responded to criticisms directed at the city’s organisers for letting Inter train behind closed doors this week.
“It’s a matter of public health and safety because we couldn’t have people running en masse across the adjacent pitches,” he explained.
Inter will face Manchester United, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain when they leave Switzerland for their preseason tour.
