Milan Skriniar today assured supporters he never even thought about leaving Inter this summer.
The defender signed a new four-year deal in May after reported interest from several top European clubs.
Antonio Conte is likely to use Skriniar in a three-man defence alongside Stefan De Vrij and Diego Godin.
Skriniar told Sport Mediaset: “I’ve always said I wanted to stay here. I’m still here and I’m happy.”
The Slovak has been touted by supporters as a potential captain, but he insisted the armband was not on his mind.
“It would be nice to become captain one day but for the moment I’m not thinking about it,” Skriniar continued.
“We have a new coach and we just need to think about working hard and improving ourselves.”
Skriniar has not played much in a back three but he did not think it would be a problem for him under Conte.
“If we all do what we’re supposed to then it could be a very strong system for us,” he said.
“It’s up to the coach where I play on the right, on the left or in the middle. I haven’t spoken one-to-one with him yet but he’s asking all of us to give everything already.
“I knew Conte was a true professional and we’ve seen it from day one of this training camp.”
He also spared a word for Inter’s former boss Luciano Spalletti, who was sacked to make way for Conte.
“We had a good rapport but that’s football,” Skriniar concluded.
“I was a bit disappointed but now we need to work hard with our new coach as well.”
