Stefan De Vrij today assured Inter supporters his teammates would do everything to honour the Nerazzurri’s shirt under Antonio Conte.
The Dutch international was one of Inter’s most reliable players during his debut season, forming a formidable centre-back partnership with Milan Skriniar.
De Vrij praised Conte’s ability to communicate his ideas effectively but played down talk of battling Juventus for the Scudetto.
“Conte wants us to train with the same intensity we have when we’re playing,” the defender told Tuttosport.
“Him and Beppe Marotta are very professional, you can see they’re experienced and know how to achieve certain results.
“We only started preseason three days ago and we’re working very well. We’ll give our all this season and then we’ll see.
“We need to think about ourselves and not the others. We want to make a big step forward and improve, with the aim of doing the most we can this year.”
De Vrij said his personal objective was become an even more important player for Inter, adding he was not concerned at the prospect of playing in a back three.
“It doesn’t make much difference to me,” he explained.
“What matters is that the instructions are clear and we work together as a team.”
Inter have already sold out their season tickets for the new season and the defender confirmed it was ‘a pleasure’ to play at San Siro.
“The atmosphere is amazing,” De Vrij concluded.
“We’ll give our all and, like Conte said, we’ll ensure we’ve honoured the shirt every time we leave the pitch. That’s the most important thing we can do.”
