Inter and AC Milan have invited four industry-leading architectural firms to present designs for their new San Siro stadium, according to Corriere della Sera.
Two entries are from Italy while the other two are from America, as the clubs evaluate how best to bring their 65,000-seater ground to life.
Stefano Boeri has already worked with Inter in the past on plans to build a new stadium in Bovisa, a district north of the city centre, while Progetto CMR and Sportium collaborated on Cagliari and Padova’s modern grounds.
The stateside firms are Hok, who helped build the Atlanta Falcons’ new Mercedes-Benz Stadium in 2016, featuring a state-of-the-art retractable roof, and Populous, who were behind the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium inaugurated in April.
As well as a more modern version of the existing Giuseppe Meazza, Inter and Milan also want to build a new multi-functional entertainment district in the San Siro area.
Work on the stadium, which will be located where the car park currently lies, should be completed by 2023, and only after that would work on the extra facilities begin.
The clubs submitted a Technical and Economic Feasibility Study to the Municipality of Milan three weeks ago, with a response expected by early November.
