Inter are behind Juventus in the race to sign Romelu Lukaku from Manchester United for two reasons, according to Sky Sport.

Firstly, the Bianconeri would address United’s need to find a replacement by offering them Paulo Dybala as part of the deal.

Secondly, they are capable of guaranteeing the Red Devils the fee they want for the Belgian, via the aforementioned swap, whereas Inter cannot meet their €83 million asking price.

“It was always clear this wasn’t just a bluff designed to disturb Inter, because you don’t work on a bluff for 20 days,” Luca Marchetti said tonight.”

Juve are discussing the valuations of the two players with United at present, but given Dybala is worth more it is likely they will receive a small extra fee along with Lukaku.

Dybala’s agent held talks with United this evening to discuss personal terms, and if an agreement is reached it would be difficult to envisage the move falling through.

Dybala will return to preseason training early on Thursday to speak with Maurizio Sarri, in order to find out how important a role he would play under the former Napoli boss this season.

Everything appears to point towards La Joya moving away from Turin, though, despite his apparent reluctance to leave the Italian champions.

Lukaku joining Juventus would remove any residual chance of Mauro Icardi signing for them, as the Inter forward continues to pray in a second chance under Antonio Conte.

Roma and Napoli are also interested in the Nerazzurri’s former captain and Icardi could begin to consider those options more seriously, should Juve withdraw their interest completely.

Inter will need to find an alternative to Lukaku quickly, having pursued the United forward for almost the entire summer.

The Nerazzurri cannot up their offer to United until they have sold one of their own players, or else they risk violating Financial Fair Play regulations.

Edin Dzeko remains a separate issue, but Inter will need to make an improved bid to reach a deal with Roma.
