Lecce Sporting Director: “Not Ideal To Play Inter On Serie A’s Opening Weekend”

Lecce’s sporting director last night admitted they were unlucky to draw Inter in Serie A’s opening round of matches this season.

The Salentini are back in Italy’s top flight for the first time in seven years and are expected to fight for survival throughout.

Mauro Meluso revealed he was ’emotional’ when Lecce’s calendar began taking shape, but joked that the fixture computer had not been kind to them.

“Getting Inter on the opening weekend is a nice punch that’s brought us back down to reality,” Meluso told Sportitalia.

“Playing the Nerazzurri at San Siro is not ideal, but we’ve worked hard during these last few years and we’re living a fairy tale.

“It will be an extremely difficult season for us but we’re equipping ourselves for it.”

Antonio Conte will meet both of the clubs he represented as a player before the end of September, with Juventus arriving in week seven.

The Nerazzurri will ramp up their preparation for the new league campaign when the first team returns to Appiano Gentile tomorrow.
