Torino’s owner Urbano Cairo last night denied the Granata were interested in signing Matteo Politano.
The Inter forward was surprisingly linked with a move away from the Nerazzurri last week, with reports suggesting he would not fit well into Antonio Conte’s 3-5-2 system.
Cairo assured Torino had ‘never negotiated for him’, though, before talking up Inter’s chances of fighting for the title this season.
“I think Juventus, Napoli and Inter are a step above the rest this year,” Cairo said as he left Serie A’s fixture ceremony.
“Inter will be able to have their say in the league once they’ve completed their squad. They have a great coach, a great team, a great squad and a granite-like defence. They’ll do well.”
Antonio Conte’s first league match in charge of Inter will take place against his former club Lecce at San Siro, before an away trip to Cagliari in week two.
Udinese provide the Nerazzurri’s third opponents before Milan, Lazio, Sampdoria and Juventus all arrive in quick succession.
