Conte’s Judgement On Dalbert Will Be Crucial To Inter’s Wing-Back Plans

Inter’s plans to sign another left wing-back this month will depend heavily on what Antonio Conte makes of Dalbert, Corriere dello Sport explained this morning.

Conte was impressed with the Brazilian’s commitment during Inter’s preseason tour of Asia, starting all three matches against Manchester United, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain.

However, with Ivan Perisic no longer an option out wide, it remains to be seen whether Dalbert and Kwadwo Asamoah is enough for Conte to rely on across a full season.

“It’s a fair question to ask, because the problems with Dalbert during the last two seasons have been more mental than technical,” the paper reminded readers.

“Everyone can still remember what happened against Empoli on the final day of the last campaign, but it depends on Conte.

“If he manages to get rid of his blackouts then Dalbert really could become the player we’ve only seen so far at Nice and in training with Inter.

“Otherwise, the club will have to seek another left-footed player, although first they will have to place Perisic and/or Dalbert somewhere else.”

Conte’s options on the right-hand side of his 3-5-2 system were complicated by Valentino Lazaro picking up a thigh injury two weeks ago.

The Austrian international has lost precious adaptation time during his first few weeks in Italy and will likely start the season behind Antonio Candreva in the pecking order.
