Mauro Icardi’s entourage have claimed the striker received messages from Inter president Steven Zhang encouraging him to stay at the club, according to Corriere dello Sport.
Wanda Nara made the suggestion public on Mediaset’s weekly talk show ‘Tiki Taka’ last weekend, saying Icardi had spoken to ‘the one who makes decisions at the club’ about his future.
Inter CEO Beppe Marotta angrily denied the claims before Monday’s match against Lecce, before Zhang himself reiterated his position in a face-to-face meeting with Icardi yesterday.
“Even if such messages did exist, Zhang’s position remains perfectly aligned to that of Marotta and the rest of the club,” the paper reported this morning.
CdS explained how this week’s latest controversy between Inter and Icardi was borne out of an increasing tension between the parties.
Inter wanted to meet Icardi immediately after Wanda’s comments on Monday, before their match at San Siro, but Maurito delayed the talks until Tuesday because he was not called up for the game and therefore had a free afternoon.
Zhang’s presence at the meeting was an attempt from the club to remove any doubt in Icardi’s mind about where they viewed his future.
But Inter’s latest move fell on deaf ears, with the 26-year-old reiterating his desire to stay in Milan.
