Antonio Conte will assess Alexis Sanchez’s fitness levels today before deciding whether to include him in his squad against Cagliari on Sunday, according to Corriere dello Sport.

The forward completed a season-long loan move from Manchester United yesterday and began training with his new teammates on Friday.

Sanchez is expected to take the no. 17 shirt with the Nerazzurri after Mauro Icardi snapped up his preferred no. 7 last week.

“The good news is that Sanchez was not called up to the Chile squad for their upcoming friendlies against Honduras and Argentina,” CdS reminded readers this morning.

“It means he can work at the Pinetina during the international break to ensure he is ready when Inter resume league action against Udinese, before they make their debut in the Champions League.”

Lautaro Martinez will again partner Romelu Lukaku in attack at the Sardegna Arena, but Sanchez will be battling El Toro for a place in the starting XI from September onwards.

Sanchez has already spent 18 months playing with Lukaku at Manchester United, whereas Lautaro did so for the first time against Lecce on Monday.

“One of his shots from distance helped Lukaku score his first goal for Inter, but Conte will expect to see progress because their understanding still needs to improve,” the paper added.

Lautaro will hope to repeat last year’s goal-scoring antics against Cagliari this weekend, having scored in a 2-0 win at San Siro and then in the reverse fixture in Sardinia, which Inter lost 2-1.
