Monaco Vice-President Petrov: “It Won’t Be Easy To Sign Icardi From Inter”

Monaco’s vice-president today admitted they faced an uphill battle in their bid to sign Mauro Icardi from Inter.

Friday’s leading sports papers in Italy suggested the Nerazzurri were considering extending the striker’s contract and sending him on loan to a club abroad.

Monaco have been consistently linked with a move for Icardi this month, with reports they have offered him a monstrous €10 million annual salary.

Asked about the club’s interest for Maurito, Oleg Petrov told L’Equipe: “I’d rather not comment on this rumour at the moment. All I’ll say is that it’s not easy.

Monaco were expected to sell Radamel Falcao before Monday’s transfer deadline but time is running out for a deal to be struck.

“We’re looking at other solutions to Falcao but we haven’t resolved the situation yet,” Petrov added.

“We haven’t got much time with only two working days left, but we’ve already done a lot of work on this issue.”

Leonardo Jardim’s side have taken just one point from their opening three Ligue 1 fixtures, squandering a 2-0 lead to draw against Nimes last weekend.
