Expert sports lawyer Mattia Grassani has discussed the latest twist in the long-running Mauro Icardi saga with the Inter forward now launching legal action against the club.

Grassani first spoke on mobbing, which Icardi is reportedly looking to find out if he has been subjected to.

“Mobbing is based on repeated humiliations inflicted on the player such as deprivation of fundamental rights such as the use of the locker room together with his teammates, development of different training schedules separate from the team and with coaches who are not part of the staff. In short, mobbing is the total demolition of an athlete’s professionalism.

“It seems that Icardi’s complaints concern the non-participation in the midweek practice matches and other behaviours of a similar nature. These are the prerequisites on which Icardi’s request for reinstatement is based upon.

He then went on to explain how the arbitration panel works.

“The arbitration panel is an alternative body to your standard labour courts. It is a board made up of three highly-qualified persons in sports law. One member acts on behalf of the player, another on behalf of the club and the third acts as the president. Things are decided by a two to one majority.”

He was then asked what he thinks the outcome could be and when it will arrive.

“The outcome is unpredictable and open to every result. With regards to when a decision will arrive, it should be within 45 days.”
