Inter president Steven Zhang has confirmed he will talk with Romelu Lukaku once he returns to the club following the recent racist abuse he suffered.

The Belgian striker was subjected to racist abuse during Inter’s recent victory over Cagliari and news of the incident quickly spread worldwide.

“I will talk with him once he has returned from national team duty. Inter is a club based upon the principles of being inclusive and international,” he said in an interview with Corriere dello Sport.

“We have always supported all people of all skin colours, cultures and race. It is part of the Nerazzurri DNA and it will continue to be like this in the future.”

He concluded the interview with the Rome based news outlet by saying: “I hope that the racist chants diminish until they disappear both in Italy and the rest of the world. Football must be a way to have fun and not a place to be violent or racist.
