Inter chief executive Giuseppe ‘Beppe’ Marotta spoke to the gathered reporters on the sidelines of the Lega Serie A assembly on a series of Inter related topics, starting with how the season has went so far.
“We are especially happy with the route we took at the beginning of the season. Suning guarantee great economic and financial stability. Things are going well in sporting teams and we are happy with this,” he said.
“We had the goal of raising the bar with respect to last season and we have raised it. We are picking up results but we are not fond of all of them. We have to look at things and work on them. This is something that Conte reaffirms whenever he does interviews and doing so guarantees growth and great satisfaction.”
Next he was asked on Inter’s plans for the upcoming January transfer window.
“We will make our assessments because we want to better support the team that through a lack of luck is lacking in some departments. We will evaluate what the January window will offer.
“I would say that we can seize these opportunities considering that this is a group that has demonstrated with facts thanks to the wise guidance of the coach to deserve certain awards. We know that this window does not offer much and we certainly look at it with optimism but also with great realism too.”
He then spoke on manager Antonio Conte and the way he speaks in interviews.
“He is a great professional and above all a winner. The winners always try to have the maximum available and get the maximum. His analysis and his way of communicating must be understood, I understand it very well.
“When he is more moderate it means that the team has fully responded to his indications, even Borja Valero for example. He is the first to defend his players because they are giving their all and for this reason there is great satisfaction.”
Next he spoke on the partnership between Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku and was asked about the possibility of Lautaro Martinez signing a new deal.
“They are two players with great value. When you are dealing with such players, you must also have a manager who values them. I must say that Conte is making them even better. I believe that Lukaku and Lautaro, beyond the fact that they are friends off the field, have great harmony on the pitch.
“Lautaro contract renewal? He is a very good boy, he is grateful to Inter and to the people who brought him here. Inter and Suning have a goal to grow. When growing, it is not necessary to sell your players. The transfer market is unpredictable and there is always the desire of the player to be considered.
“It is not the time to talk about a possible transfer or contract renewal. I believe Lautaro knows very well just how much trust and confidence we have in the team. There is no reason to imagine difficult when it comes to negotiating a new contract.”
Marotta, who has been with the club for almost a year, then spoke on Inter being first in the league table.
“We are not paying attention to the league table. We are looking at the performances and the great work culture that represents an important focal point of our project. We want to continue like this and we will see what happens later. We want to work calmly. We know that we can do this and this is something that Conte looks for every day.”
He concluded: “Our guidelines are the same as at the beginning of the season. We do not ask Conte to win, but rather to make the most of the resources available to him. We think that we can be competitive with this team.
“I consider him as a manager who manages to make the most of the resources available to him. We probably do not have players that the history of Inter should say we should but what we do have is players who are giving their all. Conte is a winner and we knew that. I know his character well. He is doing well and will continue to do so.”
