Spanish Report Claims Barcelona Will Not Give In To Vidal As They Want To Avoid Setting A Precedent For Others

The reason Arturo Vidal has sued Barcelona is because he has not played in 60% of matches according to a report from Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo.

When Vidal agreed to join the reigning Spanish champions from Bayern Munich back in the Summer of 2018, he pushed for a clause in his contract which guaranteed him to play in 60% of matches.

This has however not happened. In his first season with the club he played at least 45 minutes 51.66% of the time meaning he did not play enough to trigger certain bonuses in his contract.

Barcelona however are refusing to give in and give the 32-year-old Chilean international the €2.4 million he is seeking as they wish to avoid setting a precedent for other players to claim similar from them.

Barcelona’s refusal to give Vidal what he is after is likely to only further damage relations between the parties. Vidal was understood to already be unhappy prior to the lawsuit and reportedly wants out in order to join Inter.
