Inter and Chelsea are the two clubs at the front of the race to sign Dries Mertens according to a report from French news outlet Le 10 Sport.

Mertens contract with Napoli is due to expire at the end of this season and he seemingly has no intention of renewing.

The report goes on to explain that both Inter and Chelsea have been in contact with his representatives whilst there are currently other clubs considering making a move to sign him but the report does not got into detail about who these clubs are.

Mertens has been with the Stadio San Paolo club since a 2013 move from Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven and has been one of the club’s best players ever since.

The 32-year-old attacker is on the verge of becoming the club’s all-time top goalscorer with him needing just four more goals to achieve the feat.

This season Mertens has made 22 appearances across all competitions. In 1425 minutes on the field, he has scored nine goals and provided four assists.
