In the event Matteo Politano departs this month, Inter will look to fill the void he leaves by signing Chelsea’s Olivier Giroud according to a report in today’s print edition of Corriere dello Sport.

Inter met with his representatives at club headquarters yesterday and proposed a two and a half year deal for the Frenchman, who is out of contract with Chelsea come the end of this season.

The main obstacle in negotiations at the moment is Chelsea’s asking price. The Premier League side are believed to be asking for €10 million for the 33-year-old, who has fallen right out of favour this season.

Politano’s sale however would help Inter to bridge the gap and get a deal done for the highly experienced former Arsenal man who could come in and act as back-up to club record signing Romelu Lukaku.

Giroud has been limited to just seven appearances across all competitions in which he has scored a single goal.
