Flamengo vice-president Marcos Braz has provided an update on their pursuit of Inter’s Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa during the club’s unveiling of new recruit Michael.
“We continue to have the same enthusiasm. We just need to wait a little longer. We are dealing with the matter. It is a long negotiation and we need to stay calm,” he said at the unveiling, as quoted by Brazilian news outlet Globo Esporte.
“I think we can have a happy ending this week. We are very close to reaching a final agreement with Inter but we needed to have more talks with the player which meant things have taken a little longer.”
Gabigol spent 2019 on loan with the Rio de Janeiro based club and wrote himself into their history books as he played an integral role in them completing a league and Copa Libertadores double. In 58 appearances across all competitions, he scored 43 goals and provided 13 assists.
