Chelsea are in negotiations with Napoli over the potential transfer of Dries Mertens according to a report from Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio.
As per the report, which has appeared on Di Marzio’s self-named website, the Premier League club are seriously interested in the Belgian international and want to try and sign him before the January transfer window closes in the next few days.
Mertens contract with Napoli is due to expire at the end of the season and Chelsea are willing to pay €6/7 million for him.
Chelsea are not the only club to have shown an interest in signing the former PSV Eindhoven player with many reports linking Inter with a move for him.
According to some of the reports in the media, Inter have already tabled a two year contract offer to Mertens, who has nine goals and four assists in 22 games across all competitions this season to date.
