In an interview with Danish news outlet DR Sport, former Fiorentina and Danish national team player Martin Jorgensen has commented on compatriot Christian Eriksen’s recent move to Inter.
27-year-old attacking midfielder Eriksen completed his much anticipated move to the Nerazzurri from Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur yesterday afternoon with the fee believed to be in the region of €20 million.
Eriksen has joined Inter on a four and a half year deal and Jorgensen, who spent 13 years of his career playing in Italy, endorsed the move.
“I think it’s a good move, but it could also be seen as a slightly surprising change. Inter is a great club that is going in the right direction just like the rest of the Italian league.”
Jorgensen, who briefly played alongside Eriksen in the Danish national team, then went on to suggest that Eriksen has a better chance at winning some silverware in Milan than he did with the north London club, who he spent six and a half years with.
“If he wants to win titles, he is one step ahead. Inter have more chances of winning than Tottenham do and I also think that Inter have a better chance of passing a Champions League group compared to Tottenham in the current situation.
“I think it’s exciting. Eriksen was instrumental in bringing Tottenham back to the top of English football and last season he also played an important role in the club reaching the Champions League final.”
Jorgensen concluded the interview by speaking on the impact that Eriksen’s arrival will have on Serie A as a whole.
“With his arrival at Inter, the whole of Serie A will benefit from it. We saw it with Ronaldo and Lukaku. It means a lot for the league when they can attract players from other major leagues. It raises the standard and makes clubs more competitive internationally.”
